Here’s Why You Don’t Have Any Edges

My clients know, that I’m transparent with them. Blunt, yet gentle. And my observations always come with solutions.

As an extensions specialist I have women coming in hopeful to get the hair they’ve always wanted. Some wanting fullness others wanting length and color. My consultations are thorough. We explore hair history and hair health!

The main complication I run into with my salon guests are fine, thinning, completely broken edges. But why? Why are so many women suffering from this epidemic?

Some from health issues. Most from poor hair practices. Face lifting ponytails, lace pieces, high tension styles. I can remember being in high school and seeing girls with these excessively tight ponytails. Even before being a cosmetologist, I knew it would have a long term affect. Fast forward to over a decade later a these women are left completely bald on the sides. Is there a way to bring it back? Or are they doomed? And if so, how do we know?

Just from looking at my clients’ hairlines and feeling it I can tell if a trip to Turkey for a transplant is necessary or if I can save them the expensive trip.

Once the hair follicle is dead, that’s all. It’s dead, it’s gone. And cannot be revived.

Now if it’s just thinning and the follicles are very much alive, here’s what we can do to retain them. First let’s start with preventative care. Stop with the ponytails. And any style that causes stress to the hairline. Both front an nape areas. If you choose to wear wigs, go glue-less. And wear a barrier between your hairline and the lace.

The product you use are important. I love the tea tree line by Paul Mitchell. Always have. Since beauty school. It works, and containers one of the essentials you need for your hair. Which is, obviously, TEA TREE. It leaves your scalp feeling soothingly clean and rejuvenated. Highly suggest the shampoo and conditioner.

AMIKA volume and thickening shampoo and conditioner line works wonders too. Although I haven’t used it personally. I did have a guest come in for extensions and i noticed her hair density had changed drastically. She swore by this one.

If them, where have you been? Design Essentials Rosemary + Mint line. The shampoo, conditioner and treatment will save your hair and your edges.

The shampoos and conditioners you use play a huge role in your hair health. Along with other aspects like your diet. I’m no dietician so I can’t get into that. But definitely drink your water.

For my girls that are growth drop lovers, a holy grail I swear by is my very own, hand poured oils. And not because I’m the creator. I started making my oil during the pandemic. I used it on myself. And the results freaked me out. So I started selling them locally. And the reviews i was getting back were great.

I’m not a herbalist, but I naturally just know what’s needed. Heres a breakdown of what’s in my special sauce:

Lemon grass, peppermint, rosemary, rose oil, jojoba, haitian castor oil, tea tree and oregano.
All having interesting healing properties. Full details listed on my Instagram (@sewlovelyhair)
